Being Sustainable at Tarskavaig

At Tarskavaig we are committed to making a difference to the planet and being more sustainable in our business. Our B&B has been accredited with Bronze award from Greener Tourism here are some of the things we have implemented to achieve this.

• All lighting facilities are 100% LED. We also have light sensors which automatically turn on and off on the stair and corridors and also outside.
• Our heating uses smart technology (via the Hive app) to control room temperatures. All radiators are thermostatically controlled. The dining room is heated by a log burner with some of our own logs from fallen trees, locally sourced.
• The building is a new build 10 years old and fully double glazed with effective insulation to latest building control standards. (see attached Energy Performance Certificate).
• Our rooms use glass water bottles and jugs of milk are provided to reduce single-use plastic and food waste. The coffee pods are also recyclable.
• We regularly participate in beach cleans and promote well being to our guests with all the local attractions and cultural museums and wild saunas for mental health.

• Within the bathrooms there are heated towel rails, to encourage our guests to re-use their towels, keeping them fresh for longer. All our toilets are dual flush to save on water use. We supply Noble Isle products which are cruelty free and vegan, using natural extracts from the British Isles. These are stored in recyclable re-fillable containers.
• We have the 'Taste our best quality assured from Visit Scotland'. All the produce on our menus is locally sourced from local farm shops in our area. We also now offer a room only rate with no breakfast. This dramatically cuts down our food waste. Refillable cereal containers are also used in the dinning room.
• The hot tap in the kitchen provides constant hot water, without having to boil the kettle continuously.
• We do all our own laundry with eco friendly products and all our cleaning products for toilets and showers are ECO-VER products. We try encourage our guests to also be more sustainable and reuse towels where possible and be mindful of leaving lights and any other electrical things plugged in.
• For travel and transport, we offer the use of our bicycles for free. There is also a Go Flexi service, which is a local shared public transport scheme, which is cheap to use. This service can take you into St Andrews and nearby areas. You can download the app here.
